When the hubs mentioned that he wanted to schedule a leisurely work trip to Orlando, FL right before the new baby, I was totally down! It was the perfect excuse to get in all of our last few moments together as a family of 4 before we’re officially outnumbered, and traveling (let alone to Disney!) will be out of the question for a little while. My only request was that since we were going to be so close to the Disney Parks, that we stay at an on property resort that was not only kid-friendly but somewhere that I could enjoy for a make-shift baby-moon, too. So, we narrowed it down to an amazing hotel and hit the road at 8 months pregnant with two toddler boys and dog in tow. (not recommended for the faint of heart!) Warning: this post is pic heavy for obvious reasons.
We didn’t know what to expect before arriving at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek, but boy was I blown away when we stepped out of the car for the very first time to check-in and were treated like royalty. Everyone from the valet to the waitstaff at the restaurants made sure our stay was one of our dreams. They treated the boys as their own and even remembered our names when they passed us in the lobby! I had never had an experience quite like this one and Wyndham Grand completely exceeded our expectations for a little ol’ on property resort. So let’s chat more about our stay shall we?
The first thing we did was check out the lay of the land from our room and of course race downstairs to enjoy the sunshine! We dropped off our suitcases in the hotel room, a king suite with a bunk-bed alcove for the boys, and made our way straight for the lounge chairs by the pool. There is nothing quite like soaking up some sun after being in a car for 6+ hours! We hung out by the pool the rest of the day, and then went to dinner at their casual poolside restaurant, Back Bay Bar & Grill before catching the Epcot fireworks from inside our room. The dining options right inside property were some of the best. More on that to come ~
In fact, we spent most of our days pool-side, while the Mr. did what he had to do for his 9-5. The boys and I enjoyed sippin’ on our virgin coladas and letting go of our responsibilities (or maybe just mine) floating along in the pool of our choice. That’s right, the resort has over 4+ pools to choose from including a lazy river and a pirate ship water slide for kids and adults. It was completely kid friendly, so my boys had fun splashing around in the beach entrances while the bump and I rested up in a lounge chair under the shade. We even had pool-side service for lunch and the pool attendants were amazing at making sure we were fully stocked in clean, dry towels and anything else we may have forgotten at home, like SPF or a pool float. They even shifted around the umbrella and took an Instagram worthy photo for me – because if it’s not on the ‘gram, did it even really happen? kidding. As a convenience on those hot and steamy days, the hotel also provided free ice-cold cucumber and watermelon infused water, in the lobby near the entrance which we filled up on all day long.
When the boys felt like they needed a break from the water, there were lawn games pool-side that kept them occupied for the remainder of the afternoon. While the theme parks were pretty tempting, we left our Disney time to when daddy wasn’t at work. Luckily there are plenty of activities on the property – we kind of never needed to leave the resort. There’s a resort activity guide available and upon check in you get the Disney parks (free) transportation schedule for when you are brave enough to venture out with the kids to the happiest place on earth. For me, enjoying some much needed R&R at the resort was enough to make me happy. At 8 months pregnant, I was good with keeping it a little more low-key. Later on, when we had enough of the sun, we retreated back to our room for some quiet time and a nap. Our family room was huge – complete with bunk beds and a living area with couch. The boys felt like their room was like a mini-suite with the bunk beds in their own private nook and a separate television. Needless to say, late afternoons quickly became my favorite time of day after a fun-filled morning around the resort. Summer afternoon naps give me life!
There were three restaurants at the resort – all of which were completely kid-friendly. As a matter of fact, the staff at all of the restaurants went out of their way to make sure our boys were comfortable and enjoying themselves at meal time. The Back Bay Bar & Grill offers a great menu overlooking the resort’s lagoon and pool area. Aden and Hudson thought it was the best thing ever when the chef brought out a Mickey themed fruit plate for them for dessert. The Tesoro Cove serves three meals a day in a casual setting. We had breakfast there daily and they had an awesome breakfast buffet that was perfect for the kids! The Deep Blu Seafood Grille serves a fantastic seafood and sushi menu nightly. Not only did the staff personalize our menus to help us feel right at home, but the best part was the open kitchen – a great way for the boys to see the chefs in action!
Feeling pretty special at the Back Bay Bar & Grill
The Deep Blu rolled out the red carpet for us and everything about our meal was TOP-NOTCH.
We ended most of our nights in Disney World just because of my husband’s whacky schedule, but it’s important to note that you have a lot of really great options on the property to wrap up another fantastic day. For instance, there’s a pool side fire pit with s’mores nightly and you also have a really great view of the Epcot fireworks from the comfort of your own room. There also were a lot of families staying in suites, but surprisingly there was very little noise. It can be so hard in hotels like this, but we can honestly say that we slept peacefully almost every night.
We had an amazing stay at the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek and I can’t wait to bring our whole family with us the next time around. (It would be so nice to have grandparents in tow so we could sneak off to enjoy some more of the night life around the resort.) The whole experience was pretty spectacular and I really didn’t want to leave. I also want to make sure I get to schedule a trip to their Blue Harmony Spa for some “mom” time. I heard it’s as incredible as it looks.
Thank you to Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort BC for hosting us and giving our family another amazing experience at one of your properties. It’s definitely a trip we’ll never forget! If you’re interested in staying at this resort, my only recommendation would be to allow everyone plenty of time to relax & explore. To learn more about everything this resort has to offer (and believe me, there’s so much more I didn’t cover!), you can go to their site: Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek.
