Baby Skincare: What's worked for us for treating Eczema

Baby Skincare can be such a broad topic. I can only speak for myself, but as a first-time expectant parent, I didn't know the 101's when it came to treating my newborn's skin. As most people, I received tried and true Johnson + Johnson's bath and body products at my baby shower and I thought I was set. I mean Johnson + Johnson was what you use on baby's, right? (You see the heart-wrenching commercials!) I had no idea.

Flash forward to baby Aden and now baby Hudson - both were susceptible to Baby Eczema and it took a lot of trial and error to figure out a system that worked. With Aden, we tried everything on the market at the time. Nothing really cleared up his skin, but time itself. By his first birthday, my little guy had grown out of it, but still suffers some minor flare ups in hot weather or when he wears irritating clothing.

With Hudson, his skin started with the Baby Eczema around 3.5 months and looked far worse than Aden's ever had. Immediately I tried Aden's regime - Aquaphor, Cetaphil and some Lavender EO rub. Didn't work. Nothing worked. Until the best little packages arrived on my door-step just in time to solve all of our skincare problems.

Shoosha Baby Gentle Wash & Shampoo // Shoosha Baby Calm Baby Oil

From what I've experienced between my two boys, I know every kid is different. But if you're a parent of a child that suffers from super sensitive skin and Eczema, I'm sure you'll try just about anything to clear it up and stop the itching. I'm here to share what is currently working for us and I will even swear by it. This is our regime:

Mornings:

1/ Baby Pibu Hydrating OintmentLove this stuff. It cleared up Hudson's dry red patches immediately and the best part is it's hypoallergenic, chemical free and is safe and gentle enough for daily use. This line was developed by a dermatologist-mom, so you know it's good.

2/ We layer up with a second protective layer of Aquaphor Healing Ointment to seal in moisture and help extend the life of the Baby Pibu throughout the day.

Bedtime:

1/ Shoosha Baby Gentle Wash & ShampooThis provides a perfect and pure balance of moisturizing and cleansing action using only wholesome ingredients that will not strip your baby’s natural oils. We love this stuff.

2/ Shoosha Baby Calm Baby Oil This helps to seal in the moisture straight from his bath and I apply it with a gentle massage to promote sleepiness before bedtime. Both Chamomile and Calendula are added for their anti-inflammatory and calming properties, both phenomenal for eczema and reducing redness and skin irritations.

2/ We add on another layer of Aquaphor Healing Ointment to seal in the moisture and help protect his skin through night. This stuff works like a charm.

With so many other things to worry about when raising babies, I'm so happy to have found the right mix of products that work for us. I know when you're just starting out, trying everything under the sun to clear your baby's skin, it can be so overwhelming. I hope some of these that I've shared end up working for you! If so, I'd love to know! Leave a comment below.
