Holy Swaddle! : Review + Giveaway

baby baby items newborn Ollie Swaddle sleep swaddle swaddling The Ollie World

The Ollie World Swaddle

If there is one thing I've learned over the course of having 2 kids, is that not all swaddles are alike. In fact, I think I've been through all 50+ of them trying to get my first-born, Aden, to sleep like newborns are apparently supposed to sleep. As first time parents, we were admittedly terrible at the baby burrito and Aden was a pro at ninja'ing his way out of every swaddle we bought for him.

The research actually shows that there are many benefits to swaddling:

  • Infants sleep longer and spontaneous arousal is reduced.
  • It helps keep infants in the supine position.
  • It helps lessen pain and crying among irritable infants.
  • It reduces the risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).
  • Preterm infants show improved neuromuscular development, less physiological distress, better motor organization, and more self-regulatory ability.

You have heard me say before, that I account Aden's poor sleeping habits  (or lack there of, entirely) on not effectively being swaddled. He didn't nap for more than than 30 mins until around 5 months old and he didn't start to sleep through the night until just about 6-7 months old. I was spent and I often wondered what the heck I was doing wrong. Hindsight is always 20/20, so when I finally woke up from my lack of sleep stupor, I realized exactly what the problem was and I vowed to do it right the second time around.

Hudson was my lucky no. 2. He came at a time when I was just learning of the Ollie World Swaddle. After hearing all the buzz around it on social media, I couldn't wait to get my hands on one and give it a try. Long story short, it totally lived up to the hype and it was so easy to use.

We started using it immediately in the hospital - like as in right in the delivery room.

(see photo below for evidence.)

Hudson has slept like a champ since day 1, with the exception of growth spurts (they don't count). Almost immediately I was blessed with 5-6 hour stretches at night and as a breastfed baby he only woke once to eat between 8pm - 6am. Incredibly lucky, I know. As soon as he is swaddled in the Ollie Swaddle he calms right down, it's amazing. Now that he's reaching 10 weeks, he is more aware of the restrictions that swaddling has on him. We only swaddle him at night, since he pretends he's in a straight jacket during the day at nap time. Fortunately, he's learned to self sooth a bit, so nap times are still substantial without it. I don't think we could've made it through those first 9 weeks without the Ollie Swaddle.

There is so much more I can say about the Ollie Swaddle and how much I love its founder, Hindi. She has such an inspiring story on why she created The Ollie World Swaddle that it's worth a read. You can find it here, along with the video about her journey. The Ollie Swaddle (+ laundry bag) retails for $48 and can be purchased on www.TheOllieWorld.com

Because I love this swaddle so much, and want you to gain the benefits from using it on your new baby, I've partnered with Hindi and The Ollie World team to give 1 lucky reader a brand new Ollie Swaddle. The giveaway will run for 48 hours and you can enter below.

Good luck! I can't wait to announce the winner for this must-have baby item! Xo
